Ludwig (Lu) Carbyn, Ph.D.
Lu is a Research Scientist Emeritus with the Canadian Wildlife Service and an adjunct professor at the University of Alberta. He has conducted research spanning a period of over three decades. Lu’s research interests have included avian ecology, ecosystem biology (grasslands), and studies on mammals (wolves and bison) in several western and northern Canadian national parks.
Lu was born in Windhoek, Namibia (not saying when). He became a biologist with the Canadian Wildlife Service in 1967 and a research scientist in 1974, and has served on assignments in Poland and Portugal. From 1989 to 1993, he headed the Canadian Swift Fox Reintroduction program as chairman of the Recovery Team. Lu is currently the Canadian member of the International Union for the Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources (IUCN) Wolf Specialist Group and Canid Group.
Lu’s involvement in research on mammals, birds and conservation has taken him across Canada and around the world. For him, The Wildbird General StoreĀ® is a way of reaching out to extend his interests in conservation in a more practical way.

Jaynne Carre, M.E.Des., MRAIC
Jaynne’s introduction to the hobby of bird-watching began with a life-changing trip to the Galapagos Islands and Upper Amazon with Lu. This was followed by five years of acreage living, feeder-watching and numerous birding trips before purchasing the store. Jaynne delights in sharing the joy of bird-watching with others and listening to their experiences. She holds a Masters degree in Environmental Design (Architecture) and continues to work in that field as well.
Lu and Jaynne are a husband and wife team promoting conservation and interpretation of nature in Alberta, Canada and abroad.
