An immature Anna's Hummiingbird has shown up in Jasper. Photos were taken and the identification in confirmed. This is a species normally found along the sw coast of British Columbia and the west coast of United States. It was first sighted on Oct.5 and was still around as of Oct.15 having survived the cold weather earlier in the month. This makes the 2nd late & unusual hummingbird sighting for Alberta this Oct. The first was the Rufous which showed up Oct.8 &9 in Fort McMurray an area they do not normally occur even in the breeding season, never mind in a cold Oct. With regards to trying to locate the Anna's it has not been determined whether the location & observer will be given out. At this time Alberta Birds has not indicated one way or the other.
