At approx. 12:20 PM on Sat. Jan.2012 a large falcon was observed chasing the pigeons at the Gov't Grain Terminal. It was only visible for about 10 min. but appreared to be a slimmer profile than the Gyrfalcon which has been hunting at this location. Gerald Romanchuk & fellow birders had stopped by the Terminal after their morning field trip to Kinnaird Ravine. They spotted the bird perched on the northwest side of the bldg. on top of the silo with the letter “T” spelling the word Terminal which is stenciled on the silos. They watched it make numerous passes at the pigeons before again perching on the silo. They were able to get good looks at it and made positive ID as Prairie Falcon. One winter in the mid-90's their were 2 different Prairie Falcons hunting there at the same time (confirmed with photos taken by Edgar T. Jones). The last record I have for Prairie Falcon at this location is Feb.05, 2007. It appeared again this morning at 9:00 AM but was chased out of the area almost immediately by 3 Ravens & was not seen again.
