Late in the evening of June 2, 2009 Gerald was very lucky & sighted a Snowy Plover at the Cooking Lake Airport located just north of Hwy 14 on the west end of South Cooking Lake.  This species is listed as a Vagrant through this region.  The U.S. federal endangered species lists the western subspecies as threatened due to habitat loss & degregation as well as Human disturbance. *from National Geographic Complete Birds of North America.
Birder's often go to this area to look for shorebirds due to low water levels & good access & this time the reward was a rarity!
