On Sunday Paul and I went out to drive around in the Beaverhill Lake area. What an amazing day that turned out to be: (4 pelicans + 4 great blue herons at Hastings Lake + a bazillion gulls) Beaverhill area: 30+ red-tailed hawks (including a nest with young) 3 kestrels 1 sharp-shinned hawk 1 rough-legged hawk 4 harriers 1 peregrine falcon buffleheads, goldeneye, mallards, red-headed ducks, green-winged teal, shovellers, wigeons, lesser scaup, Canada geese (one nesting on a hay bale) another pair of great blue herons 1 bluebird 1 meadowlark 2 horned larks 3 song sparrows 1 tree sparrow 300+ snow buntings 1000+ pintails 1000+ snow geese 500+ sandhill cranes
