North end of Hermitage park: several Am. Wigeons, Blue-winged Teals, pair Common Mergansers, Red-necked Grebes, Lesser Scaups, Mallards & geese. Also Savannah Sparrows, Yellow Warblers, Red-eyed Vireos. Pelicans soon. Spotted pair of Double-Crested Cormorants, Buffleheads & Common Goldeneyes there week or two ago. Female Belted Kingfisher makes appearance sometimes (rarely). Saw her last yr as well as American Goldfinch & possibly Baltimore Oriole. Fab website: http://www.allaboutbirds.org.
The city refurbished a previous beaver pond, contractors laid down some horrible non-environmentally friendly, non-biodegradable nylon mesh around the pond & my little dog cut his toe badly on this stuff. Last fall a Cedar Waxwing had some of this stuff around its head. Poor thing. Maybe if enough people complain they'll do something about it. I worry about more dogs (the north end of park is an off-leash area) and wildlife/birds getting caught in this stuff.
