Sunday, Oct.10 I headed to Misty Ridge with a forecast of warm temp. & 25km S winds. Well a thick layer of low cloud and light winds for most of the day kept both the birds & the temp. down. Light conditions were closer to dusk than daylight making raptors diffiicult to follow against the dark sky. The first raptor, an imm. Bald Eagle appeared low over the east ridge briefly before going behind the trees. Starting around 3 PM the winds kicked up as the cold front approached. Over the next 2 hrs. I saw close to 20 eagles (6 confirmed as Golden either by siloette or markings if they were close enough. Also seen were several Red-tailed & a couple of Rough-legged Hawks and a Merlin. At the suet feeders: White-breasted Nuthatch (3) Downy Woodpecker (2) Hairy Woodpecker (2) Bluejay (1) Black-billed Magpie (1) Black-cap Chickadee (4). Considering the light levels & lack of thermals it was a great day!
