Feeders active this morning at Hastings Lake: black-capped chickadees, white-breasted nuthatches, blue jays; 4 species of woodpecker visiting too: downy, hairy, pileated, and a northern flicker back after being unseen for a couple of weeks.  Magpies and crows in the distance, but no sign of redpolls.

Skiing to the Meadow Hut in the Blackfoot Recreation area led to some more interesting sightings at the feeder there: of course, black-capped chicadees and blue jays, but also a large flock of redpolls and a boreal chickadee feeding there as well.

April 15-16 — Hastings Lake, Tofield area, and the Islet Lake part of the Blackfoot trails:

Red-winged blackbirds are back; at Hastings Lake we also saw mallards, goldeneye, bufflehead, canada geese, and tundra swan on the water.  Regular visitors to our feeders, but they were joined by a pair of purple finch.

Tofield trip — red-tailed hawk greeted us at Francis Viewpoint, where we also saw mountain bluebirds and a small flock of swan flying overhead.  Mallards at the bridge over Amisk Creek — water very low there!  As we moved on to loop through Ryley we saw northern harrier and American kestrel.

Islet lake had a large number of swan, geese, wigeons, mallards, and goldeneye on the water.  Red-tailed hawks and crows were flying overhead.  All in all a pretty interesting weekend of birding; amazing how much activity has increased since last weekend.
