A year ago (April 16, 2009) we watched a small flock of penguins swimming in a small pool of water surrounded by ice; a couple of great blue herons joined them that afternoon.


Exactly the same day a year later: we saw two pelicans soaring above our bay at Hastings Lake, and late afternoon a great blue heron flew into the bay to begin the late-day hunt for food.
