On Tues. Nov.8, Gerry Beyersbergen & myself headed to Misty Ridge & then the Cross L. area for a day of exploring. Gerry was interested in seeing the two areas for the first time. Not to be disappointed we saw a swarm of Mallards (1000+) circling over a harvested grain field. They were accompanied by several hundred Canada Geese. Shortly after a Northern Harrier (f) flew past. At the ski hill we saw an adult Golden Eagle & 17 Bald Eagles (3 imm. & 14 adults) along with the birds at the suet feeders & the Snow Buntings. On Sec.663 approx. 5km east of Fawcett, a moose was seen in a pasture approx. 175m from the road. At the corner of #663 & 801 an imm. Rough-legged Hawk was observed sitting on top of a power pole. On Lu Carbyn's property both Red & Gray colour forms of Ruffed Grouse were seen as well as a bull moose which ran across the road approx 75 m from where we were hiking. At the feeder were Black-cap Chickadees & White-breasted Nuthatch. Very good day for Gerry's first time to the area !
