Last Tuesday, June 8 my work partner Caroline & I made a trip to the Wakomao L. east of Clyde. During a 9 hour tour we found a total of 83 Species despite cool windy conditions. The Trumpeter Swans were still on Bouchard L. along with probably a thousand Franklin Gulls on Wakomao L. We located a Meadowlark but missed many other possible birds such as Connecticut & Yellow-rump Wabler & Sandhill Cranes. Now the Edmonton Nature Club trip on June 12 only recorded 57 Species in the same area with equal birding time! We could not find the Meadowlark,Trumpeter Swans, Connecticul Warbler or Blue-headed Vireo. We were treated (thanks to a warm day) to the sight of 2 Turkey Vultures soaring overhead. I have seen Vultures every spring in this area since 2006-07 when I started birding here more often & now regularly look for them. The other highlight for the trip was the excellant close up look of 2 male Cinnamon Teal in with male Blue-winged & Green-winged Teal for comparison. American Avocets are nesting there as well. The area is a wetland at the junction of Hwy 18 & Rge Rd 244 at the south end of Wakomao L. The other treat was a Badger seen crossing the road just south of the marsh. On another note, our Wildbird General Store trip June 13 to Sh. Park Fish & Game property by Gambling L. had lots of Baltimore Orioles, many Yellow Warblers & several Mourning Dove as highlights during the 3.5 hr walk. Next & final trip is June 19. And on a final note we received a report of a Lazuli Bunting at Warburg & are waiting to see photos for confirmation.
