Sandhill Cranes are now starting to come through the area in numbers, although the peak is still to come.  Ted Hindmarch reported approx. 800 on the ground near Hillsborough Estates in the Gibbons area April 22.  Meadowlarks are now being seen throught the Beaverhill L. area, especially near Amisk Cr. bridge.  Greater Yellowlegs (5) were seen at Rge. Rd 164 just south of Sec.626 April 21 reported by Jim Lange.  A lone American Avocet was observed April 23 at the Quarry south of Tofield during the ENC Trip.  Gerry & Jim Fox saw a Common Loon & Red-neck Grebe on Kallal Meadows backflood April 21.  Nerida reported 2 Common Loon on Wakamao L. at Clyde April 23. Ann Carter located 4 Eurasian Wigeon in a flooded field next to Francis Point April 21.  A few Common Grackle have been seen at Beaumaris L. (Doug Faulder) & at the Nature Centre Marsh in Tofiled April 24 during the Hawk Survey.  Sharp-shin & Rough-legged Hawk are still being seen in the area however no Swainson's Hawks just yet.
Snow Geese seem to be very elusive & not here in numbers yet.  Several flights were seen in the Holden area as well as Twp Rd 494 & Rge. Rd 180.  Ryley Pond (north side of Hwy 14 on Rge Rd 180).  Look for Paintball sign of south side of Hwy.  At the moment it seems to be the best place for ducks with a good selection to be seen.  Afternoon is best due to light conditions.  Water is in good supply in the fields around Ryley, just the ducks, geese & swans are in short supply!
