Jason Duxsbury photographed a male Harlequin Duck on a wetland in the north end of Sh. Park .  It is located east of Clover Bar Rd. & n. of Summerside Dr.  This was on Aug.11.  Another unusual sighting is from the west side of Beaverhill Lake at Twp 520 & Rge Rd 185A (half way up the lake off Sec. #834).  2 Loggerhead Shrike were seen on Aug.7 by Ed Mah-Lim.  Several days later a couple of experienced birders from Ontario who were birding the Edmonton area checked the report & found the 2 adults flying into the bush with food indicating they were feeding young.  In the early 1980's a pair nested along Rowam's Route near the turnoff the Francis Point.
Eric Wallce & Art Hughes sighted a Prairie Falcon north of Hay Lakes on Aug.16.   Gerald Romanchuk sighted an imm. Prairie Falcon a few miles SE of Amisk Cr. on the weekend.  He also indicated there was water in the centre of Beaverhill as he could see ducks, gulls & shorebirds circling in the distance.  However it was a long way out with long grass & tons of mosquitos.   Shorebird habitat appears to be almost non-existant in the Edmonton area this fall with the high water levels.  Gerald has checked Astotin, Miquelon, Beaverhill, Cookiing L. with no success.  Warblers are on the move with a good assortment being reported from Emily Murphy Park by Don Delaney & Whitemud Cr. reported by Del Huget.  Watch for Say's Phoebe along the roadsides in the Edmonton area as they move back through the region.  Some of these birds go to northern Alberta & the Yukon for the summer.
I have not received any reports yet of White-fronted Geese coming through but they should be coming through anytime now.

Happy Birding!
