Hummingbirds, Turkey Vultures & Shorebirds

Calliope Hummingbirds have returned to the Mountain View area of southern Alberta (near Cardston) & Rufous Hummingbirds have been reported by Linda & Bob Morgan in Brule on May 13.  Turkey Vultures (3) seen north end of Elk Island Park  on May 14 by Calgary birder Marcel Gahbauer.  Another sighting of 2 Turkey Vultures sw of St. Michael by Doug May 12.
  Marcel also sighted a Peregrine Falcon at Astotin L., American Goldfinch & LeConte's Sparrow in Elk Island May 14.  Del Huget reported a great assortment of songbirds in Whitemud Ravine on May 13.  Rose-breasted Grosbeak, Western Tanager,Eastern Phoebe, Ruby-crowned Kinglet,Orange-crowned Warbler, Yellow Warbler, White-throat Sparrow (14), Least Flycatcher & Cooper's Hawk.  The Hawk Survey on May 15 located an assortment of shorebirds:  Stilt Sandpiper, Least Sandpiper, Avocet, Wilson's Phalarope, Northern Phalarope, Black-bellied Plover Marbled Godwits.  Considering the gale force winds a total of 59 Species were seen including great views of several Swainson's Hawk soaring overhead.
