Gerald Romanchuk made a trip Aug.8, to South Cooking L. in search of shorebirds.  Highlights were Black-bellied & Semipalmated Plovers, Hudsonian & Marbled Godwit, Semipalmted, Baird's, Least, Pectoral & Stilt Sandpipers.  Also seen were both Long-billed & Short-billed Dowitcher & flock of Red-neck Phalarope.  Pretty good birding I think!
Don Delaney reported seeing 2 Black & White Warblers & 2 Canada Warblers in the trees above Emily Murphy Park.  Rick Palidant heard a Barred Owl calling just north of the campground in Cross L. on Aug. 8.
My friend, Linda Jarmolicz & i made a quick 3 day trip to Cadomin Aug.7-10.  Highlings were an adult bull Moose crossing Hwy16 at 2:00 PM, 90 km east of Edson.  The following day we made the steep & treacherous climb up to the alpine zone on Cadomin Ridge near Mountain Park to 7350'.  On our drive down from the campground to Cadomin 7km away we sighted 3 Sharp-shin Hawks cross over the road.  The only sightings on the trail were 2 feathers from a Great Horned Owl.  We hoped to find a Dusky Grouse but no luck!  On a Monday mid-day trip to the Cardinal Divide we were treated to find a female Grizzly with 3 cubs slowly working there way to the south along the upper reaches of Tripoli Mtn.  Rather than go hiking & miss this wonderful sight we stood at the parking lot for 2 hrs & just admired this animal & its ability to at times run full stride across the slope, even steep gullies not slowing them down.
On the way back to camp we made a brief stop at the Prospect Cr. bridge to scan for Bighorn Sheep (found a band of 15-20 high on Cadomin Mtn.  Also seen at the same time was a Red-tailed Hawk & pr. of adult Golden Eagles.  This was a cause for celebration!  On Tues. morning, a brief hike back on the west side of the Cardinal Divide produced 3 Baird's Sandpipers forced down onto the alpine meadows by overnight rain & low cloud, also an Elk & band of close to 30 Bighorn Sheep high up on slope just south of Cheivot Mtn.  Only regret was having to leave this splendid area.
