Steve Knight photographed an imm. Pacific Golden Plover vs the normal American Golden Plover, at Alberta Beach on Oct. 09.  Steve thought the bird looked a little different in plumage than the Plovers he was used to seeing in Alberta & was able to get a series of photographs from various angles.  After these were sent to some birders with more experience seperating the 2 species the identification  was confirmed.  Still with shorebirds, Del Huget was birding at Cooking L. Oct.10, and saw approx. 300 Dowitchers, 120 American Avocets, Greater Yellowlegs & 2 White Pelicans.  Gerald Romanchuk reported that Cucumber L. near Willingdon had very few birds compared to most years.  He did see 2 Golden Eagles.  Another one was sighted at Beaverhill L. on Oct. 11, by Don Delaney & Glenn Parker.  As they were walking out to the water (which took an hour! ) at Mundare Beach they flushed 3 Short-eared Owls.
I sighted an imm. Golden Eagle & 2 adult, 1 imm. Bald Eagle at Misty Ridge on Oct. 08. Rough-legged Hawks are starting to appear in numbers in the Edmonton reporting region while most Swainson's Hawks have left the immediate area although probably still in the Calgary birding locations.
A report from the Mt. Lorette raptor monitoring site in Kananaskis set a new one day fall record on Oct. 08.  New totals: 583 raptors sighted between 7:00 AM & 7:15PM.  Amongst this group were 556 Golden Eagles!! This makes my efforts at Misty Ridge seem rather insignifcant in comparison.  My best day was in mid-Oct. years back at 54 eagles in one day.  Oh well still a peaceful place to visit.
